songs i've been listening to recently, pt. 1

Wiz Khalifa - B.A.R.
If it wasn't for Nation, I would've probably slept on this dude forever. And really, half of Burn After Rolling is misguided decisions - whoever thought it would be a good idea for Khalifa to cover Beyoncé's "If I Was A Boy" in ironically out-of-tune Auto-Tune has a screw loose - while the other half has dude just going in. It never quite reaches the heights scaled by the opener (posted above) but it's nice to know some rappers are nice surprises these days - a cool example is on the chilled-out "Timeless".

butter your popcorn, baby!

Because Tarantino is on the mind after the other day's viewing of Inglourious Basterds and I love the folks over at The Playlist, I graciously point you towards volume eight of the movie blog's Soundtrack Series - If I Were Quentin Tarantino.

The music choice here is just impeccable, so who cares if this is another "late pass" post? (The soundtracks were posted in 2007.) Check out the other ones too, they're cool and worth checking out.

get stoked

So, that whole furore about new Radiohead material: yes, they have new songs coming (I think). This is one of them.

Radiohead - These Are My Twisted Words

And if you haven't heard it yet (or bothered to download it), here's the better of the two newies, "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)" off Youtube.

My bad, I've been meaning to post this for a bit - Scottish rappers MasterSystem and their self-titled demo EP. There's a link to it through their Myspace blog but because I'm a kind fellow... HERE you go, click away! It's pretty dope.

If you missed that: DOWNLOAD HERE.

what i loved most turned to distant ghost

Carve The Future are an Edinburgh-based hardcore band who sound a bit like stonking Japanese band FC FiVE and have a lot of gang vox. The vocals sound a bit flat at parts but they're pretty good, especially on the song "Stand Tall". Basically if you like melodic hardcore, you'll dig their "Avoid the Fall" EP, which is up for download here. If you missed that: HERE it is. HERE.
