french-argentinian-japanese-love-music-jazz

Oh my days.

I've been listening to Mama!Milk's Fragrance of Notes quite a bit - that and George Russell's (R.I.P.) Jazz in the Space Age, both make for good "shit-I-have-to-do-work-for-uni" type of music. But they both stand up on their own - anyway, you should play the video above, which is Mama!Milk playing their gorgeous "The Moon" live at a temple in Kyoto. It's as lovely as it sounds.

If you love the show, please feel free to buy this on vinyl for me.

head-exploding goodness

Better late than never - Blackclassical knocked it out of the goddamn park again with this one podcast Jazzfreeka did for Scrimshire in June of this year. Seriously, so much gold on this. Go crazy.

"my dad used to say it reminded him of bebop"

So, yeaaaars ago world's greatest entertainer (seriously) Q-Tip made an album called Kamaal the Abstract that out-Love Below'd Andre 3000 before he even recorded the damn thing. However, Arista shut it down and the album never got released... until now!

Listen to "Blue Girl" here, it's great. And download the track below - the thing's been bootlegged since forever anyway so you might as well before you pick up the official release.

look at my pelvis blushing!

So, I just heard Jayne Cortez speak for the first time. I've always had a bad reaction to spoken-word/poetry ever since an ex-girlfriend played me The Last Poets' "Gashman". I know, it's sacrilege to say this shit but goodness, that kinda stuff really annoys me. Jayne Cortez is cool though, and you will learn this by listening to "I am New York City" here.

You will also hear said track on the latest podcast (image above) by Jazzfreeka/Blackclassical, which you can download HERE. If you've never heard of Jazzfreeka, don't worry about it - I only found out about him the other day. And you guys must like hearing some jazz you've never heard of in your life, especially when it's a mix of "very spacey, Middle Eastern, modal chilled out jazz, not as hard as the others and as you can see mainly Strata East so I guess you know what to expect... "

If you're like me, you don't know what to expect at all. So jump into the unknown already.
